Mission driven companies believe that it is possible to have a positive impact on a social issue, while also considering all stakeholders. They stay committed to product development, profit, social responsibility, and sustainability. Research has shown that when an entire organization understands and commits to a mission, it helps them to execute with focus and builds commitment to the cause. 

Additionally, mission driven companies are outperforming companies that focus solely on maximizing profit. Business and consumer behavior has changed to favor for-profit companies that also serve an authentic purpose. With social media being so prevalent, companies have an opportunity to share their mission with a wider audience than ever before. 

Mission in the workplace also drives and improves engagement. Employees who fall in love with their work, and mission driven company, experience higher productivity levels and engagement. When they express loyalty to a company, they remain longer, costing the organization less over time. Mission driven workers are 54 percent more likely to stay for five years at a company, and 30 percent more likely to grow into high performers, than those who arrive at work with only their paycheck as motivation. Employees who love their jobs are more productive, loyal, and cost the company less over the long term.

Leadership staff has a big job, one which sets the tone for an entire organization.
